Folks, I just want to summarise our last week together at ASCI. It has indeed been a hectic one - in fact - I thought that maybe as we approach the last week, the intensity of our course will slow down - but alas, it was not so....we had lectures up until the last day..lols..I suppose - as they say, there is no rest for the wicked...!!!
After our outbound exercise and lecture on interviewing skills on Saturday, the group exchanged cultural knowledge in what turned out to be an exciting, extremely enjoyable and entertaining evening. We saw hidden talents, jokes, singing and dancing - who can forget those moves by Mr. Gopa - the swaggering dancer from Vizag...and the elegant Rose with her melodic voice and exotic dance moves and the dashing Dina looking radiant in her sari..Noble Noorani - with her angelic voice and the beautiful Dr. Nilly -quiet in her corner, but do not be mistaken - she is analysing each and everyone...lols!!
We were fortunate to have had the company of the DG - ASCI, our program Directors and family and Professor Raghavan and Professor Firdausi. Great appreciation to Dalvi and Rajiv for the organisation of the evening's activities. Totally a memorable evening - I suppose the photos will say more that what I can ever write for the blog.
On Sunday - all proceeded with their own activities and it was a good break as it gave us an opportunity to visit other parts and sites of Hyderabad. For most of us, it was a good time to explore the streets of Charmina - but at the back of our minds is the excess luggage costs - should we decide to buy loads and loads of stuff..lols
Monday began with lectures of Strategic Management - we learnt the 7s of Strategic Management - how to do environment scans and were advised that in most of our analysis, we tend to focus more on the past and present - therefore losing sight or failing to fully consider or plan appropriately for the future....failing to plan strategically...
Another takeaway from the lecture is ..not to be late to class and ensure that your mobile is turned off at all times..otherwise - 100 Rupees please....what a learning experience!! This sesison concluded on Wednesday afternoon.
The rest of the week, we concluded our Business Simulations - Elite Races won the game - we did a full reflection of the various paths that we took in terms of the decisions made. We also did an appreciation of the effectiveness of our Public Speaking Skills - this was videotaped and we were appraised of the areas in which we needed to improve. It is amazing - sometimes we do not realise the various mannerisms that we display - but who can argue with the camera..lols...
We had a session on Corruption in India and were advised of the differences between proactive and reactive corruption and relevant examples were cited. It was an enlightening lecture.
The session on Collaborative Motivation was equally enlightening we learnt the nitty gritty detail of motivation and the importance of having a collaborative approach to all work and processes in our workplaces. The session on Balanced Scorecard gave us an appreciation of the various systems that can be put in place to measure performance and achieve strategic goals of the organisation. The session on Corporate Social Responsibility gave us an opportunity to reflect on ourselves and our contribution to society - moreso the need to be good individuals morally and ethically as well as undertaking your role to society. We also had a session with the DG, wherein the economy of India was appraised in terms current status, various opporutnites, strengths and weaknesses.
Folks - you will agree with me that the Valedictory speech was absolutely wonderful - I was trying to type some of the issues and concepts that were being mentioned..they are below - but I know it does to fully reflect everything that was said...

Individual Proficiency must become group efficiency and that must become organisation effectiveness.
Leaders must reflect on what you are doing - once decide..- and ruthlessly implement it...Have to be a role model, example, personal standarads, continuously learning, unlearning and re-leanring - outhink, outplan and outplay...
