Day 3 - The Financials and the impact of IT

Can you remember back to the days when you were small and your parents would have to read simple story books so that you can easily understand the story and the lessons behind that story? Well the Finance lectures we received for a good part of the day was exactly like that - the lessons were so important, yet they were conveyed in the most simple manner. Personally, I have not heard Financial Statements discussed in such a manner before. The knowledgable and energetic Professor Mubeen did not fail to capture our attention right throughout her session - her teaching methodology was truly innovative as she illustrated the concepts with real-life examples. Truly an enjoyable lecture - Finance has never been my strong suit - therefore when it would come to a classroom session on the issue, I can say, my attention span would drastically fall below the norm - I was truly amazed that my concentration remained at full capacity right 'till the end of her lecture. Discussions spanned from Balance Sheets, P&L Accounts right to cashflow. We learnt that Assets can be defined as 6 Ms, about GAAP and how your organisation is only as strong as the quality of your Assets. To survive, you need cashflow, to be successful - this is measured by profits and prosperity is measured by growth in profits. Profit is only a concept, but cash is a reality. Thank you Professor for such a well-coordinated, constructed and well delivered lecture. As an additional comment, the Lecture was very intense - possibly if the session can span over 2 days next time - for further consideration.
The afternoon saw us discussing the the impact of IT in the world at large. Somehow, the world has gotten flatter in some sense. The learned and well experienced Professor Mohan elaborated on the evolution of IT from the beginning until todate - a comment raised was that it seems that technology is developing faster than our ability to adapt to the changes. We were reminded that we must accept technology- we must accept the fact that it is widely used in the world today and that it has made businesses and transactions more efficient.
All in all, the day has been very constructive and has trully stretched our brain cells to their limits..lols...for some of us - we really needed that drink at the bar after the session - for others, a long walk and a bit of sight seeing was in order.
It has been a good day - I can't help but notice that the intensity of this course is slowly building up - we must prepare ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually for this.
Have a Blessed day folks.
